The opinion:

We never understand why stylists and photographers are always trying to weird her up. She's classically beautiful and much better served working in the milieu of the classically beautiful. She looks AMAZING in that covershot and only so-so in the other pics. There's nothing particularly wrong with these pictures, but we can't help thinking they came up with the concept first, found out Swinton wasn't available, and shoe-horned Julianne into the editorial.
